Whoa! What a busy week for Pirate fans. Three sporting events, a concert, and a fun interview round out the week of coverage for We are Grantsburg. Take a look…
The top-seeded Pirate ladies received a first-round bye for the WIAA tournament then won two matches this past week. The first match was a “grind-it-out” type of victory which the Pirates won in straight sets over the Chequamegon Screaming Eagles 25-21, 25-21, 25-16. [Here’s the preview post]

After the Thursday night victory, the Pirates hosted a very good team, the Clear Lake Warriors, on Saturday evening for the Regional Championship. [Here’s the preview post] Some might even say the number five seeded team should’ve been much higher in the tournament pool, but as it was they were the fifth-seeded team and had won their first two playoff matches against Chetek-Weyerhauser and Phillips, both in straight sets.
The girls came to play this night. A much more fluid performance as the girls won in three mostly dominating sets. Final scores were 25-19, 25-11, 25-15. The Pirates captured their 26th Regional Championship

The Pirates take on the Colfax Vikings on Thursday, October 26 at a neutral site; Cameron.
If the Pirates win, they will be playing for the Sectional Championship on Saturday. If they win that, they’re heading to State!
After securing their third straight undefeated conference title, the Pirates set their gaze upon the opening round of the WIAA Playoffs. Their opponent, a familiar foe, the St. Croix Falls Saints. With the heated rivalry the backdrop, the two teams clashed last Friday night.
The Pirates started fast and didn’t let up until they scored their 38th point, early in the third quarter. The final score: 44-0. Six different players scored for the Pirates,

- Jared VanWatermuelen (30 yard FG, 5/6 XPs)

The Pirates host the Durand Panthers (4-2, 6-4 third in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference) in WIAA Football Level 2 Playoffs
Three sixth grade boys had the opportunity to ask Luke, John and Leo anything they wanted. Here’s the result (part 1):
The high school band and choir put on a great concert on Sunday. The ladies’ swing choir, jazz band, vocal jazz ensemble, and the Travelers also performed. The concert begins at around the 23-minute mark.
