Watercross Update

The number one ranked Pirates had many opportunities to blow the game open, none better than the top of the ninth when they had bases loaded with nobody out, but failed to get a run across.

There were some great moments in the game though. Jake Wald comes to mind immediately with a clutch pinch-hit in the top of the seventh. He drove in the game-tying run and then was pinch ran for once he reached first. It was pretty cool… and his dad's reaction was priceless… I thought he was going to leap over the eight foot tall chain-linked fence to celebrate the big hit.

Mostly, though, it was a game of wouldas and couldas as Grantsburg stranded a lot of men in scoring position and made some baserunning faux pas that may have cost them runs. In total there were five outs tallied between third base and home for the Pirates.

Here's a partial replay of the game as heard on Classic Hits 105.7 WXCX… it picks up in the bottom of the second inning of a scoreless game… and then cuts off uncerimoniously later in the game. Blurg.

The Grantsburg boys already secured a game tomorrow with a win over Phillips last night. They will take on Colfax at 1pm in Chippewa Falls.

Northwoods Sports Report debut

The Pirates beat Somerset tonight in a game that was close throughout with the Pirates pulling out the victory 63-53 in Somerset. That win gave the Pirates 13 on the year besting their win total from last year (12).

The Pirates are 5-2 in the conference and tied for second behind Luck and with Webster and Unity. It's still anyone's conference. Grantsburg's next game is at winless in the conference St. Croix Falls (2-12, 0-8).

After that the Pirates host Unity for a big game. That game will be broadcast on 105.7 WXCX.

New show on WXCX

Of course I'll be there broadcasting on 105.7 WXCX if the internet doesn't work. There are so many sponsors (read: awesome people who love supporting Grantsburg) we are going to have an extended pregame and postgame. Hopefully I think of something to say. Perhaps we'll interview a couple people… yeah, that's a good idea, I'll do that I wonder if any Regis people would like to sit next to me?

I'm not sure if I will be allowed (per WIAA rebroadcast rules) to put the games on here, but I'm pretty sure we can post them on the radio station's website, so either way I'll have them here or link to them.
