 We have a couple games tonight with local interest. First, on 100.9 WCMP at 7:30 the Pirate Girls take on the Rush City Tigers in a border battle meanwhile on 105.7 WXCX we'll be covering the boys Blizzard taking on Pine City at 7pm.

I'm working the girls game while the wayward son, Dan Hinrichs, comes back and does the hockey game. (EDIT 4:30pm – Dan and I are switching games to make life a little easier with equipment and proximity issues)

The Blizz are coming off a nice conference win against Minneapolis East West (yes, that's a conference game). While the Pirate girls look to rebound from a 67-52 loss against Frederic on Friday.

Well a new season is upon us and the schedule is out for December. We'll be doing a lot more hockey this year, which is exciting to me because there are rarely 30 point blowouts in hockey

Here's the schedule for the rest of December:

A quick spring storm only delayed the inevitable for the Siren/Webster team tonight. They were facing the number 2 team in Division 3 tonight and it ended up pretty ugly. Grantsburg won 18-0.

I have to give Siren/Webster credit because they really held Grantsburg in check (relative to my expectations) until the fifth inning when the Pirates erupted for ten runs. Siiri Larsen pitched pretty well, but in the end the S/W team had some mental breakdowns, some throwing errors and some pitching mistakes that led to the very lopsided score.

Michelle Lund struck out 8 (out of a possible 12 outs) and only allowed one hit. Sarah Wald had a good night at the plate going 3 for 3 with an RBI and a couple runs scored. Ingrid Ames hit a bases loaded triple that one hopped the fence in that fifth inning.

Grantsburg came out swinging the bat and it paid off for them once again. Grantsburg is now 15-0, 6-0 in the West Lakeland. Then next closest in the conference only had two wins coming into tonight’s games.

My next broadcast is May 12 and its a baseball game with Grantsburg travelling to Pine City to take on the Dragons.

The attendance was the worst I’ve seen at a sporting event anywhere. At the beginning of the game only eight people sat in the south bleachers. There were more Pine City folks there than from Grantsburg.

Of course that’s explainable because of the weather and the record and that it was only one game and American Idol was on tonight and whatever else.

Kortney Morrin was again very good scoring 23 points. She is averaging 20 ppg and is ranked 4th in that category in Wisconsin Division 3. She is the youngest in the top 15.

Grantsburg had three players in double digits. Morrin (SO), Gabbie Witzany (FR) and Liz Gaffney (FR).

The Pirates trailed by 18 at halftime, but actually won the second half by four. They came out the second half with much more energy and agressiveness.

The next game I’ll be broadcasting is on Thursday with Luck and Grantsburg showing down for first place (boys). Two undefeated teams. If you can’t listen on the radio you can listen online with the YouCastr link in the right sidebar.

A game that will feature two struggling girls teams. Grantsburg (0-9, 0-5) hosts Pine City (3-8, 2-2).

Can Grantsburg finally get that first elusive win? They were beaten in their last game 70-57 in Frederic. The game prior they lost to Webster by seven points and led after the first half.

Grantsburg’s defense needs to improve for them to have a chance to win a few games in January. They have given up a LOT of points including 95 to Ladysmith and 86 to Braham.
