History of Heartbreak

Posted in Football, General, Posted by Bob | No Comments »

Here's a link to one of my Inside the Huddle columns which goes through the trials and tribulations of my love life. It was tough to write and it is definitely an abridged version because I can only write 800 words or so for the Sentinel. Give it a read if you have five minutes.

Football district proposal rejected

Posted in Football, Posted by Bob | No Comments »

Hooray for common sense!

The WIAA board of control rejected the proposal by an 8-2 margin to change the current football setup with conferences to a district format. You can read about the ill-fated plan here.

There were some good things about the plan, such as ending the three games in ten days at the end of the regular season and beginning of playoffs. That issue is slated to be confronted by the 2011 season. Here's a few ideas.

Todd Beckmann from the Sentinel has been all over this story and here's his latest about the thumbs-down vote from the WIAA.

I know you've been waiting for it… my newest column is up on the Sentinel's website. Thanks for reading it.

New Inside the Huddle column posted

If you're interested my most recent column has been uploaded to the Burnett County Sentinel's website. It's about my wife and me going to state volleyball… alone.

Column back up

Posted in Posted by Bob, Volleyball | No Comments »

The Burnett County Sentinel recently changed the format of their site which made some things inaccessible, including my recent column about my daughter and her relationship with Sarah Wald.

Thanks to Todd Beckmann over there for fixing that issue and now allowing everyone to read it.

Articles from around the state

Grantsburg’s volleyball championship has spawned many an article around the Badger state.

Telegraph Herald – Dubuque… loved the “symphony of domination” line.

“They hit it so hard you couldn’t even see it before it came past you.” That line came from a story from Madison.com.

Madison.com had a CoverItLive blog here… some interesting comments and worth the read.

Here’s Preps on the Net’s take on the championship game.

The Sentinel put this recap up… and it’s free!

I know there are more stories out there… I saw a great headline and article earlier today courtesy of Greg and Kathy Palmquist, but I can’t remember which newspaper it was in. If anyone finds any other stories about the Pirates volleyball team, please let me know and I’ll put it up here.

Great job, Pirates!

Palmquist gets game ball

Here’s an update from the Best Western lobby…

Annie Palmquist was Jay Messar’s player of the match for the Grantsburg/Laconia state semi-final.

Here’s his write-up about the division 3 matches plus a preview of tomorrow’s Championship match. As always, he is right on with his analysis.

I also checked the Cheese and Volleyball  site, as usual, and was incredibly surprised and touched by the words of my unknown friend(s) over there. They linked to my story in this past week’s Burnett County Sentinel which talked about my daughter and Sarah Wald’s relationship.

Unfortunately, it looks like the Sentinel has completely changed their format so you can only get the first sentence of the story.

tI'm writing a column for the Burnett County Sentinel again and this week it is about one of the current Grantsburg volleyball players and my daughter. Check it out here.

UPDATE (11-7-09): Unfortunately, at least for the time being, the column is restricted to subscribers. This is a new thing the Sentinel is trying for some reason. I had no idea they were changing their format to this when I posted this link to the story. I cannot legally reprint the column on this blog, even though I wrote it, as I have a contract with the Sentinel and they basically own anything they publish of mine.

UPDATE (11-13-09) The article is back online and I've fixed the link above. Thanks for reading it.

I think you’ll get a kick out of my latest column in the Burnett County Sentinel. It chronicles my absurd ego and my wife’s ability to deflate it. Check it out.

New column out

My latest column is up on the Sentinel website. This week I discuss what constitutes a sport as opposed to just an activity. Fun stuff.
