Grantsburg boys victorious… will face Colfax in Sectional Semi-final

It was a thriller for much of the game with Grantsburg finally pulling away in the second half with the final score of 50-34. The Pirates led at halftime by the slimmest of margins as it was 21-20, but at the end of the third Grantsburg extended that lead to 11 and it never got closer than eight points.

It was another good game overall for the team. They Myers boys got into some foul trouble early, but the rest of the guys played well in their stead. A key to the game was defending the paint because Phillips' leading scorer is a six-six oak tree who caused some trouble for the Pirates, especially defensively, the big guys for the Pirates (Seth Coy and David Ohnstad) and help from their friends, held him to under his season average.

It also helped that Phillips couldn't hit any shot in the fourth quarter… I don't think I've seen such cold shooting out of a team in a long time. They had some nice looks, worked hard to get to the rim, but just couldn't finish.

Grantsburg will travel to Chippewa Falls on Saturday for their "Elite 8" game against Colfax. We'll have that game for you on WXCX and streaming online at www.redrockonair.com.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but it is good to plan things out. Here's the scoop regarding radio broadcasts for the rest of the week (105.7 WXCX) if things go swimmingly for Grantsburg (or Siren/Webster)

Thursday: Grantsburg (19-5) vs. Phillips (12-11) boys in Rice Lake 7pm

Friday: Spring Valley (2-21) @ Grantsburg (14-7) girls 7pm

Saturday: Grantsburg boys Sectional Final 1pm from Chippewa Falls

Saturday: Grantsburg Regional final in Osceola (or Siren in Spooner if the Pirate girls lose on Friday). This game has to potential to be Grantsburg vs. Webster if the Tigers can get by #1 seed Boyceville. Webster won in overtime in their game against Glenwood City on Tuesday night 62-56.

I'm thinking at some point of actually making a thing on the side that would update for every new show, but for now I'm going with the individual post.

Here's the latest show in which we discussed the boys basketball bracket, Badger basketball and the controversy in Iowa over a girl wrestler and the guy who refused to wrestle her at their state tournament.

Northwoods Sports Report

New show on WXCX

I'm really excited to tell you about a new opportunity for me to invade your ears! I'll be hosting a sports/news talk show on 105.7 WXCX called "Northwoods Sports Report" starting this Monday at 10am. Jesse Logan, the sports director at WXCX/WCMP will be my co-host. We're starting it small as we navigate how we want it to sound and work, and also to get sponsors to help us fund it.

I'm excited to have an opportunity to showcase some of the great people and schools in our area. I'll have a lot of guest interviews and listener interaction (speaking of which… become a fan of WXCX on Facebook to interact with me during the show).

So tune in Mondays at 10am to get the latest scoop on what's happening in our area!

I will be updating this bloggy thing from Green Bay when I get there, but if you are interested in watching the matches the WIAA has set that up for you. Go HERE for the feed.

Of course I'll be there broadcasting on 105.7 WXCX if the internet doesn't work. There are so many sponsors (read: awesome people who love supporting Grantsburg) we are going to have an extended pregame and postgame. Hopefully I think of something to say. Perhaps we'll interview a couple people… yeah, that's a good idea, I'll do that I wonder if any Regis people would like to sit next to me?

I'm not sure if I will be allowed (per WIAA rebroadcast rules) to put the games on here, but I'm pretty sure we can post them on the radio station's website, so either way I'll have them here or link to them.

Here's my schedule for the rest of the week…

Wednesday – Church night… kids- go to youth group or confirmation.

Thursday – Siren hosts Drummond… tries to get retribution for those pesky Drummond boys always knocking the Dragon boys out of the tourney (since 2007).

Friday- The Webster Tigers look to get by their nemesis, Eau Claire Regis in the Sectional Semi-Final. Do the Tigers have it in them to make an improbable run to Madison?

Saturday – Could be two games, or could be zero games. We'll follow Siren girls and Webster boys as far as they'll take us!
