History of Heartbreak

Posted in Football, General, Posted by Bob | No Comments »

Here's a link to one of my Inside the Huddle columns which goes through the trials and tribulations of my love life. It was tough to write and it is definitely an abridged version because I can only write 800 words or so for the Sentinel. Give it a read if you have five minutes.

True Meaning

Posted in General, Posted by Bob | No Comments »

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. ( And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it , they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

-Luke 1:1-20 KJV

I know you've been waiting for it… my newest column is up on the Sentinel's website. Thanks for reading it.

Happy Thanksgiving

Posted in General, Posted by Bob | No Comments »

"We would worry less if we praised more. Thanksgiving is the enemy of discontent and dissatisfaction." ~ Harry A. Ironside

If I sat for any length of time and wrote down all the things God has blessed me with I would be able to come up with thousands of things. It is so easy to get wrapped up in my problems and temporary crises that the gratitude gets pushed to the kids' table. But I am so thankful to God for the life he has given me.

I'm thankful for:

A wife who inspires me

Children who adore me

An extended family that loves me

A church that cares about me

A community that supports me

A country that fights for me

And a savior, Jesus Christ, who died and rose again for me

My mom’s a winner

This is somewhat old news from Grantoberfest, but I just came across it from Grantsburg’s Chamber of Commerce site.

She won the chili cook-off. This is not the first time her recipe has won a blue ribbon, either.

So… congrats, Mom!

There are lots of pictures and a list of all the different winners of various and sundry things on the page, too.

If you would like to welcome the state champion Grantsburg Pirates home you are invited to meet the bus at the Burnett Dairy Co-op at 3pm.

We will wait for the bus and follow it back to the school with a police escort.

You can also head straight to the school.

There will be a program in the gym upon the team’s arrival with the GOLD BALL!!!

tI'm writing a column for the Burnett County Sentinel again and this week it is about one of the current Grantsburg volleyball players and my daughter. Check it out here.

UPDATE (11-7-09): Unfortunately, at least for the time being, the column is restricted to subscribers. This is a new thing the Sentinel is trying for some reason. I had no idea they were changing their format to this when I posted this link to the story. I cannot legally reprint the column on this blog, even though I wrote it, as I have a contract with the Sentinel and they basically own anything they publish of mine.

UPDATE (11-13-09) The article is back online and I've fixed the link above. Thanks for reading it.

Correction

I falsely assumed that the Championship match would be available at wiaa.tv. Unfortunately, it will not be shown there… only the semi-final match on Friday (1:00 pm) will be available online.

You can, however, listen to both matches on 105.7 WXCX. The match on Saturday starts at 12:30.

Also… I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to update this blog while I’m in Green Bay… hopefully it won’t be a problem, but in case there is there are a few websites that will provide you with a lot of info.

Clayton ousted

Co-West-Lakelanders, the Clayton Bears, lost to McDonnell Central last night in straight sets.

The Bears were runners-up in last year’s playoffs, losing to Catholic Central in straight sets.

Congratulations to the Clayton Bears on a terrific season!

Grantsburg is now the only representative from the West Lakeland conference still alive in the tourney.
