Share on FacebookFor those of you who are hoping to listen to the Webster vs. Glenwood City football game you can listen online here. Find the link that says “Listen Live” and you’ll be able to follow the Tigers in a big victory (hopefully).
Share on FacebookHere’s a recording of the match between St. Croix Central and Grantsburg for the Regional Championship. Unfortunately, there is quite a bit of background crowd noise to deal with at times, so make sure you are aware of that. I’ll try to get that filtered out for the next one. Here’s the match.
Share on FacebookThe Pirates strike once again playing close to perfect volleyball against the Webster Tigers in West Lakeland play.
The Pirates won 3-0 (25-9,25-10, 25-13). I give credit to the Mindy Widiker coached team because they never gave up and kept smiling the entire night. Even though they were getting trounced, they were having fun, so congrats to the Tigers.
The Pirates on the other hand just look unstoppable. They were hitting hard, playing good defense, passing well and they just own the court. The confidence they play with is as high as it can be. They believe they are unbeatable, and so do I.
I’ve included the audio from tonight’s tilt. I hope you enjoy it.

There were moments in the Luck vs. Grantsburg tilt that gave Pirate fans hope that the worst is behind them.
Grantsburg was able to move the ball fairly well against a very athletic and well coached Cardinal team. The problem for the Pirates were turnovers. The Pirates coughed the ball up several times, losing a couple. They also threw two interceptions.
Had Grantsburg been able to hang on to the ball tonight the score would not be as lopsided as it seems. I think Luck was definitely the better team tonight, but I don’t think the Pirates are that far from getting their first win of the season either.
If you missed the broadcast you can listen to it right here on We Are Grantsburg. Go ahead.
Here’s my postgame interview with Coach Keith Lehne.

The Pirate volleyball team is still going strong after an undefeated regular season and a second place state finish in 2008, the ladies are at it again winning and winning big.
Tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 8 ) is a big match against Clayton (Division 4 state qualifier). This match tonight will go a long way to determining the conference champion in the West Lakeland.
I am planning on going to the game, but it will not be broadcast on radio. I did purchase a digital voice recorder and will call the game and upload it to this website as soon as I can.
Unfortunately, the radio station doesn’t plan on covering any volleyball games this year until the playoffs, so if I can find some businesses to sponsor this site, I will call the games for WeAreGrantsburg.com.

The Grantsburg girls basketball team finally notched their first win of the season… and it was a blowout 60-38.
The Pirates swept the Unity Eagles on Tuesday night. For the girls it broke a 14 game losing streak. They are now 1-14 over all and 1-8 in the confence. Obviously it has been a tough year for the ladies, so this win must be a great feeling… like coming up for air when you think you’re about to drown is how I imagine it.
The boys won as well, keeping control of the West Lakeland. They defeated the Eagles 66-30. They were hoping for some help from St. Croix Falls, a team that Grantsburg was barely able to beat last week. The Eagles were playing the Luck Cardinals, but the Cards proved to be a force and routed SCF 60-35.
Grantsburg next plays Webster on Friday night and I’ll be broadcasting that on 105.7 WXCX as well as right here on We Are Grantsburg.

The wait is almost over… after having to postpone tonight’s tilt from a couple weeks ago, both teams remain undefeated in the conference.
This will be the biggest game of the night in all of division 3 basketball and I’m excited to be announcing it exclusively online on YouCastr (you’ll find a link on the right hand side of this page – you may have to scroll down).
Of course a lot of the focus in this game will be dedicated to Brennan Olson who is averaging 25 ppg this season and is getting some looks from Division 1 schools. Rumor has it that he is also being courted by UMD and Winona State University.
Grantsburg is coming off a night like I’ve never seen before. They defeated Shell Lake 77-39 (they were leading 49-17 at half). The Pirates were shooting out of their minds in the first half of that game. They were down 9-3 in the opening minutes of the game… so that means they went on a 46-8 run to end the half! If Grantsburg can shoot like that tonight against Luck, they will win.
The key matchup here is the post play. Brennan Olson can jump out of the gym, Grantsburg needs to limit his points inside, even though Olson can shoot the mid-range jumper as well as anyone. If the Pirates can limit Olson on offense and rebound effectively they should win. All eyes will be on Trent Bonneville and Jason Jensen.
Luck has many other weapons that cannot be forgotten about. Carson Giller, Harry Severson-Dickenson and the Mortel brothers are all outstanding ball players and coach Rick Giller is outstanding.
Luck made it to state last year and are primed to make a run this year as well.
Grantsburg believes they are the team to beat. They have a nucleus of seniors that have been playing significant varsity minutes since they were sophomores.
I am excited about tonight’s game, more than I think I’ve ever been for a regular season game in any sport. I’m hoping for a good game decided by the players. It should be intense and Luck’s gym should be crazy tonight as we watch the best game of the night in Luck.
Make sure you listen to the broadcast at We are Grantsburg!

It looked like the Pirates were going to notch their first win of the season for a while tonight, but things just didn’t pan out for them as they drop to 0-8 on the season. Kortney Morrin had a great night shooting, unofficially I had her for 28 points.
Rose Kopecky from Webster had 26 and took over the game in the second half. I was also very impressed with Brittany Burrow’s defense… it seemed like she was everywhere causing havoc.
Boys…

Grantsburg 66, Webster 32
This one was a little deceiving. It seemed like Webster was in it for most of the first half. They were only down 7 after the first quarter and 13 at half. But that trend continued and Grantsburg quietly and methodically blew Webster out.
Four players scored in double figures for the Pirates, led by Jason Jensen with 15. Every single player on the varsity roster scored at least one point.
Grantsburg remains undefeated as they improve their record to 7-0.
Grantsburg is ranked 8th in division 3, Luck is ranked 4th.
