Grantsburg baseball trying for Regional Championship

The Grantsburg Pirate baseball team has won eight in a row after beating the Unity Eagles last night, 4-3.

Grantsburg’s Thane Larson had a perfect game going through three innings and a no hitter into the fifth. In that fifth inning Unity scored twice and cut the lead in half, 4-2.

Then the wild top of the seventh came. The Unity runners on second and third first and second were running with the pitch, two outs. The batter gets a solid knock into right center field. One run scores, and the runner from first is on his way. A relay throw from the outfield to second baseman, Austin Eskola first baseman, Jake Ryan to catcher Ben Larson is in time and secures the third out of the inning and a chance at a regional championship against second seed Turtle Lake/Clayton. The game will be at five o’clock tonight (Wednesday, June 3). Tune in to 105.7 WXCX for the action.

The Pirates have now won nine out of their last ten games. Let’s hope they can continue that tonight against a good Turtle Lake/ Clayton team. Grantsburg lost to them the second game of the season, final score 6-2.

you put so much focus on the girls on this site and nothing about the boys, and if you actually are going to write about the boys get your facts straight. the varsity boys last night beat unity making it their TENTH straight win. Also the cut to home was from jamie to JAKE RYAN to ben.

The runners were on first and second not second and third and the count was full with 2 outs and the runners were going on the pitch.

Thank you very much for your comments and your passion for Pirate baseball! I appreciate both of you setting me straight on the situation. According to Wissports.net the Pirates have won 8 straight, so maybe they're wrong. Either way the Pirates are in the middle of a great run. Judging by the tone of the first comment you are upset with my reporting. I hope you can get past this and just enjoy the blog. Though I try to be accurate, I'm definitely not perfect and I'm sure you can find other unintentional factual errors in this blog. I am just a guy writing about what I see. I try to write about both teams (baseball and softball). The goal isn't to give every sport equal time (when's the last time I talked about track or wrestling or the Honkers?) the goal is just to have fun and write about what I see in a positive way. I give baseball more time than a lot of other things. I hope you understand that this is not a full time gig for me. I'm not the Sentinel, I'm not the Leader. I'm just a guy who really likes his town, youth and sports. I never set out to be the source for all things Grantsburg. I hope you understand.
